Why Choose a Construction Engineer Career


When looking for the highest paying engineer career, always look for a career in construction. Since construction has its own special conditions such as locality difficulties, remoteness, access difficulties, the pay rates are superior to reflect the conditions. Generally the pay rates are up to 60% higher than pay rates for work in a office location in major city.

Construction engineer career uses different methods and terminology. The extra pay for example is called uplift, site allowance, or even danger or dirt money. Construction life is also different is so far as it is specifically geared to meet the needs of the client. If the client is say a oil production organisation then their requirements will be uniquely different to the mainstream client.

Construction engineers are normally required to live adjacent to the job site and will frequently be located in camps which are constructed specially for the project. Typical set up of the camps is to promote a environment of working and sleeping. Facilities such as gyms are provided for the employees to give them some sort of life. There are activates that are intended to give a feeling of normality.

The work can be and is often difficult. The hours of work will differ from 10 - 12 hours a day and a working roster will be set to suit the market conditions. Where an employer may keep the employees on site for 4 or 5 weeks at a time and then give them a week off he will choose this option. Due to high demand of construction engineers lately the roster has come down to 15 and 6. This means the engineer will work for 15 days and next have 6 days off. Currently popular roster has been 2 and 2. This is work for 2 weeks (14 days) and then have 2 weeks off.

Where the employers has a real problem in finding local expertise he fill bring people in from outside the region. This is called FIFO which stands for fly in fly out. The construction people will fly in to the camp, work for 2 weeks and then fly out.

Construction time is hard and very worthwhile for anybody wishing to have a career in construction engineering.
