I have worked for an estate agent for four years now. My job is to take telephone calls from prospective buyers and arrange appointments for them to view property they are interested in. I have always wanted to run my own business and felt confident I knew all aspects of buying and selling property. I had the opportunity to start my own business and began to look around for a good location. The premises I was interested in soon turned from a dream into reality. I bought the offices and started to furnish them out. My partner and I were in this together and after a few months, everything was ready to have a “grand opening”. We had recruited two extra staff whose knowledge of this particular type of business was invaluable. Without the prospect of a lot of people just popping in, we realised the need for progressive advertising. The question was what type of advertising? I was aware that fax marketing was available and was quite similar to telemarketing, so my partner and I purchased a new fax machine. We knew from experience that this type of advertising would be a great asset to us and help to attract new business. The idea was to quickly compile a solid customer base. We put our heads together, designing a rather good sales pitch and advertising broadsheet. Knowing it would have to be eye-catching, interesting and not just another ad to bin, we tried it out. We then set about making a spreadsheet of prospective consumers and their fax numbers. This was in fact a very exciting time for the team and we prayed it would work out alright. There actually was no need to worry. After a few hiccups to start with, we realised this was the way forward albeit knowing there were more up-to-date ways to advertise. It was totally successful from the start, effective and most important of all, reasonably cheap for us. Reading up on the laws of fax marketing we had to take care not to send advertisements to any numbers registered with the Fax Preference Service. We adhered to this rule diligently. The business began to take off and a sound customer database was soon compiled. Every indication was that we had made the correct decision by investing in a new independent estate agent business. Fax marketing is straightforward and uncomplicated. It is easy to handle and not technically difficult. Our business strategy was organised by using brochures, leaflets and pamphlets. To do this we needed to purchase a fax model which was capable of sending these types of documents. We also liked the idea of being able to write a message to a client which added a certain personal touch to our advertising campaign. So for any prospective business people out there, if you own a company or are just starting up, I would strongly recommend using fax marketing as a first step to making progress. It certainly works for us!

If you are looking at new forms of drumming up new business, it's well worth considering fax marketing. Its cheap, quick and does produce results. The alternative is the ever popular email marketing method. Seen as more professional and offering a better return, it does offer success but with so many people going down that route, maybe consider fax marketing as a viable alternative.
