Kate Moss - The Style Icon!

Croydon's most famed export, she was discovered at the age of by Sarah Doukas, the founder of Storm Model Management at JFK airport and has been storming the modelling and celebrity scene ever since.

She's possibly inspired fashion more than any other fashion icon, inspiring the post-Twiggy waif look of the nineties, forming the noughties version of boho-chic, and devising festival fashion; Let's be honest, hotpants and wellies have never been sexier!

What makes Kate Moss stand out other 'fashion icons' of our time is her capacity for appearing effortlessly stylish.

Whether or not she's dressed up or down she never looks overdone. She has the innate capacity to be stylish without looking as though she's given it any thought. In short, she wears the clothes and never lets the clothes wear her (Victoria Beckham take notice!)

As a result of her fondness of Ugg boots and ballet pumps, this comfy footwear has remained fashionable for years. Because of her we can still look fashionable and sexy without needing to be dressed in high heeled boots or feet-crippling stilletos.

Other women are comfortable with Kate Moss because she's not traditionally beautiful, and at 5'7” is closer in height to the average female, unlike the majority of catwalk models. She's constantly managed to simultaneously be the girl we want to be, as well as the girl we want to be with. She's even dated the stunning Johnny Depp without us needing to gauge her eyes out!

Kate Moss has also shown that she can be human and can make mistakes (Pete Doherty and the infamous cocaine scandal of 2005 almost certainly being the biggest examples) and yet she's always bounced back from it all. After a tabloid newspaper ran the front page pictures of her allegedly snorting lines of coke, she lost many major modelling contracts as well as one with H&M (worth a reported £4million). In spite of this, she was able to ensure a massive comeback a year later, bagging 18 contracts for autumn/winter 2006. In addition to her profitable modelling contracts, she's also a fashion designer for Topshop; giving us simple mortals an opportunity to buy a little bit of her style.

Kate Moss is an icon because in spite of living and working in the media spotlight, we actually know little about her as a person. She is notably private and offers few interviews, and has consequently stayed an enigma all through her career. On the other hand, a huge chunk of her character is obvious in what she wears, as opposed to what she says.

She's an unrelenting fashion force and an inspirational comeback queen. She has defied the age limits of modelling and continues to diversify with her on-stage rock-chick behavior, books and perfumes.

She's the woman every girl would like to dress like and despite being in the public eye for so long, we can't help but want to learn more....
