Be Aware of Herpes Symptoms


Herpes is an infection caused by viruses. Though it could be of various types, the most common are the oral herpes which infects the mouth and the face. This causes cold sores on the mouth or face. The other common category is the genital herpes which causes blisters on genitals. Both of these are caused by herpes simplex virus or HSV that may be classified as type one and type two. What is more severe and alarming is the genital herpes. Herpes symptoms appear periodically on the infected person. At times herpes infection may pass without even have it noticed.

Herpes symptoms may develop within two to twenty one days and sometimes even take longer. These symptoms further last up to several weeks depending on the person being infected. As these appear periodically, the first stage or episode do normally appear but remain unnoticed. In fact there are persons who may be affected by herpes infection and only after a year they will be aware that the infection has been acquired. In some cases, the first episode of symptoms causes sores that can be seen. These sores are small blisters that are filled with fluid and eventually break open to form shallow sores. These sores are painful. After sometime the sores will be completely healed and surprisingly leaving without any scar. However there is a higher tendency that the virus remains in the body system and the probability of producing more sores eventually is very high. Various recurrences may sometime cause lesions or skin trauma.

Other herpes symptoms appear as rashes or small bumps on the skin. These bumps appear like pimples.

Most of the herpes outbreaks symptoms are the same for both genital herpes and cold sores. However, the cold sores appear on the genitals, anus, buttocks or thighs for genital herpes. Flu-like symptoms and swollen lymph glands in the groin follows the initial infection of cold sores or rashes. There are times that people infected by herpes virus find it so painful to urinate and sometimes some women have fluid vaginal discharge. Sometimes infected person may also notice a burning or itching sensation in the affected area and normally painful. These are followed by distinct rash, small cracks in the skin or blisters that burst. Other symptoms a person needs to be watchful are rashes or sores combined with headaches and fever, infection of the urethra, and lower back pain.

Herpes symptoms for genital herpes are normally mistaken for a vaginal yeast infection, insect bites or hemorrhoids and even other sexually transmitted infections. The symptoms may come and go. These normally take even up to four attacks a year. Be vigilant on symptoms of recurrences too like red bump or rash that heals faster than the initial outbreak.

Herpes virus can infect anyone. As a matter of fact, genital herpes can still be acquired even if one has just one and only sexual partner. If you have recurring herpes symptoms, do not hesitate to consult a medical specialist immediately.
